About Us

Safe Start Driving School began as Fresh Green Light in 2014 in Lincolnshire, IL. It was followed by our Northbrook location which opened in 2019. It was started by a local parent who wanted the community to have a new driving school that was more convenient, more effective and more engaging than the traditional driving schools in the area. We hire and train excellent instructors and use progressive learning techniques.

SANDI – The Simulator for Advanced Neurodiverse Instruction

What is SANDI?

SANDI is a scientifically designed driving simulator developed at Vanderbilt University that recreates real-world driving conditions in a safe, controlled environment. It is a fully-immersive virtual reality driving simulator.

It is designed to support neurodiverse learners, including individuals with ASD, ADHD, and severe anxiety, by bridging the gap between classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. For students who aren't quite ready to begin on-road lessons, SANDI provides a quiet, adaptive, and judgment-free environment where they can build skills and confidence at their own pace.

SANDI offers a safe-to-fail learning experience, allowing students to practice, make mistakes, and learn without the pressures of real-world traffic.
